Apple Audio Devices

Apple HomePod

These sound great, but Siri is not-super-good (yet?) and configuring these and/or managing them is real wonky. I’ve found that resetting these is always faster than trying to troubleshoot through why they aren’t working properly. Recently, I had to restart my wi-fi, this for some reason, caused some irreparable problem where the HomePods thought they were on  a different network even though their details said they were on the same network. This meant that they couldn’t sync audio with my other AirPlay devices (I use Belkin SoundFormConnect to put my amps on AirPlay). You cannot manually change just the WiFi unless it recognizes that it’s on a different network. Now that I think about it, I guess you could swap it to a different network and then swap it to the right one… whatever, the reset worked.

Here’s the HomePod reset process, which isn’t well documented in Apple’s documentation for some reason:

  1. Unplug HomePod or unplug the power adapter for HomePod mini. Wait 10 seconds, then plug HomePod back in.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then touch your finger to the top of HomePod and hold it there.
  3. The white spinning light will turn red. Keep your finger down.
  4. Siri will say that your HomePod is about to reset. When you hear three beeps, you can lift your finger.
  5. Open Home app on an iOS device while the iOS device is connected to your desired network.
  6. Click the Add Accessory button
  7. Follow the instructions
